ACCOMPLISHMENTS
SUPPORTING
We awarded $100,708 in grants, which supportedarts, culture
and history:
• $ 45,355 from the Undesignated Fund to support capital
projects and programmatic initiatives
• $ 25,289 from the Designated Funds to support capital,
programmatic and general operations
• $ 6,399 from the Prindle / Wood Family Memorial
Endowment to programmatic initiatives
• $ 23,665 from the Muriel Whiteside Designated Fund
to support general operations of the nine affiliated arts
and cultural organizations
DEVELOPING NEW FUNDS
• Donors gave $164,788 in new gifts, pledges and annual
sponsorships, and $40,600 in in-kind support
• We experienced a 63% increase in member’s
annual giving and a 43% increase in-kind gifts
INCREASING CIRCLE MEMBERSHIP
The Foundation’s four Circle of Friends membership
totals 1,308 members: each Circle recognizes a donor’s
cumulative giving over time
• This year, 26 members achieved new Circle memberships:
2 new Heritage Circle member, 7
new Magic Circle members, and 15 new Depot
Circle members
MANAGING FUNDS
• $ 4.5 million in assets
• Amended the investment management policy and guidelines
to broaden diversification and maximize return
FOCUSING ON RESULTS
• Supported the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s
Preservation Development Initiative for Duluth by providing
matching funds to conduct a comprehensive study of the
Depot
• Engaged national experts and Depot stakeholders
in a visioning workshop to develop a vision for a vibrant,
solvent, and highly regarded arts and cultural center
• Established a Community Task Force comprised of
Depot stakeholders to create our community’s vision
for the Depot’s future
• Received a NTHP grant award to engage experts from
the Minnesota Historical Society to conduct a workshop
to develop a building wide exhibition and programming plan
for the Depot
• Discussed the challenges and opportunities facing
our arts and cultural community with our beneficiary organizations
to focus our grant making strategies
• Secured a five-year lease at U.S. Bank Place and
underwritten by an in-kind gift from U.S. Bank Foundation,
valued at $100,000. The expanded office space can better
serve our members and beneficiary organizations and reduces
operating expenses long-term
CELEBRATING
• Celebrating 26 years of service with our members,
donors, volunteers and grantees
• Hosted the 5th Annual Circle of Friends Celebration,
which honors member’s contributions to the arts and
cultural community
• Presented the 6th Annual Depot Foundation Arts and
Culture Awards, recognizing accomplishments in the areas
of community enrichment, initiative, lifetime achievement,
artistic excellence and cultural / historic preservation
and interpretation |
